Meet your Site Administrator,
Jim Morgan
Jim was born in Chinquapin, North Carolina. You can't get there from here. Chinquapin is in Duplin County, often the second largest hog producing county in the country on an annual basis. So it was only natural that he became a barbecue lover.
Jim's father was a Presyterian minister, and he grew up in Tayorsville, NC, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, until the family moved to Charlotte. Jim went to Appalachian State in Boone for 4 years, and took his first post-college job in Fayetteville, NC, at WFLB radio. Back in the east, Jim re-kindled his love of Carolina barbecue.
In 1988, Jim moved to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, and has lived there ever since. While sampling South Carolina style barbecue, and being close enough to visit his barbecue roots in the Tar Heel state, he bought a smoker and started making his own "Q". This led to a catering business and eventually he started entering barbecue contests, a growing hobby in the United States. In his second contest, Jim won 2 first place trophies, including 1st in Barbecue.
A fan of internet sites dedicated to cooking and barbecue, Jim immediately saw the interest and passion for Carolina barbecue from people all over the country. So he decided to start this website, to not only help preserve the memories and legacy of Carolina barbecue, but to give folks an opportunity to talk about their favorite restaurants.
It is his hope that this website will serve as a resource for barbecue lovers, a forum for discussion, and a place to honor the legacy that is Carolina barbecue
